With a strong culture of intellectual rigour, collaboration, and practical problem-solving, this team is now expanding its efforts in applied AI to enhance scientific productivity and model performance across its programmes.
Your role as Software Developer, Applied AI
As part of a new initiative, the Software Developer, Applied AI will build and deploy smart systems that integrate AI with scientific software, internal tooling, and machine learning workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing agentic tools, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, and smart interfaces to support drug discovery and research productivity.
Contributing to the full software lifecycle - from early prototyping to large-scale, production-ready deployments.
Collaborating with researchers, software engineers, and machine learning experts to deliver tools that enhance how research data is accessed, analysed, and applied.
Automating complex workflows to reduce manual bottlenecks and streamline experimentation.
Supporting intelligent data curation pipelines and feedback loops that improve model training and evaluation.
Experience and qualifications for the Software Developer, Applied AI role
This role is ideal for technically skilled and curious engineers with a passion for real-world AI applications - especially those that intersect with science, research, or data-intensive environments.
The most relevant candidates will have:
Proficiency in Python and experience building software tools, infrastructure, or AI-driven systems.
Interest or experience in generative or agentic AI, or related areas such as RAG or LLM integration.
A strong foundation in software development principles, from architecture to deployment.
Exposure to scientific or research settings, or a demonstrable interest in applying engineering to domain-specific problems.
Experience automating data pipelines or computational workflows is a strong advantage.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, especially in multidisciplinary teams.
More than a specific technical background, the team values intellectual agility, practical problem-solving, and a track record of technical contributions.
