A leading diagnostics company is seeking a Laboratory Support Coordinator to support NHS pathology services across key hospitals in the North East of England. Working on a contract basis, this role is ideal for a technically strong, hands-on professional with a background in electro-mechanical engineering and experience supporting diagnostic or laboratory systems.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to critical healthcare delivery by ensuring high system uptime, resolving technical issues quickly, and supporting end users across multiple hospital labs. The successful contractor will be covering three NHS sites and should be comfortable working in clinical settings, communicating directly with lab staff, and managing a broad mix of responsibilities - from servicing equipment to delivering applications support.
Your role as Laboratory Support Coordinator:
Deliver on-site technical support across a range of analytical and diagnostic systems
Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues to minimise system downtime
Provide applications and IT support to lab personnel as needed
Train laboratory staff on the safe and effective use of diagnostic platforms
Liaise with key stakeholders across hospital teams to ensure service continuity
Maintain compliance with internal protocols and industry standards
Experience and qualifications for the Laboratory Support Coordinator role:
Background in electro-mechanical engineering or field service within diagnostics, medical devices, or lab-based environments
Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
Solid understanding of the IVD (in vitro diagnostics) sector
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in live environments
Strong communication skills and confidence working with clinical end-users
Willingness and ability to travel between hospital sites in Gateshead, South Tyneside, and Sunderland
