Machine Learning Researcher and Engineer
Location: New York City | Hybrid

Work at the intersection of large language models and life-changing science.

An innovative, privately funded research and technology company is looking for exceptional Machine Learning Researchers and Engineers to join their interdisciplinary team in New York City. With a mission focused on revolutionising molecular science and drug discovery through advanced computation, they offer a unique environment where cutting-edge machine learning meets high-impact, real-world application.

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of large language model (LLM) development-shaping foundational research and contributing to scientific breakthroughs in areas such as molecular simulation and therapeutic design. The organisation's proprietary supercomputing infrastructure and deep scientific expertise create the ideal setting for technical innovation, intellectual growth, and meaningful impact.

Your role as Machine Learning Researcher and Engineer

As part of the team, you'll help advance the development and application of large-scale LLMs and multimodal models within a high-performance computing environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Scaling and optimising training and inference workflows for large models on dedicated supercomputing hardware

  • Designing and implementing robust pre-training data pipelines and distributed model training

  • Applying post-training methods such as reinforcement learning, instruction tuning, and contrastive learning

  • Driving innovation in multimodal learning, including integration of molecular graphs, 3D structures, and time series data

  • Collaborating with experts across machine learning, molecular science, and systems engineering to advance research goals

Experience and qualifications for the Machine Learning Researcher and Engineer role

The team is seeking curious, innovative minds with a strong foundation in machine learning and a passion for solving complex problems. Ideal candidates will bring:

  • Deep understanding of LLM architectures, training processes, and machine learning theory

  • Proven experience with large-scale ML systems, including distributed and parallel training techniques

  • Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow

  • Exposure to or interest in multimodal learning, particularly with scientific data types

  • A track record of achievement in academic research or industry innovation

  • Intellectual versatility and drive to contribute across a range of projects and challenges

Direct experience in drug discovery or molecular science is not required-what matters most is your ability to learn, adapt, and think critically.

Perks and benefits

  • Hybrid work schedule (in-office Tues-Thurs, remote Mon & Fri)

  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits

  • Relocation and immigration support available

  • Collaborative, intellectually stimulating environment that values continuous learning and innovation

  • Opportunities to work on high-impact scientific challenges with real-world relevance

This is more than a research role-it's a chance to be part of a team redefining how machine learning can transform healthcare and science.
